Workshop by Land of Snow Leopard Network
From September 26 to October 3, 2024, the Land of Snow Leopard Network (LOSL), in collaboration with partner organizations from Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Siberia, and the Pamirs, held a unique workshop dedicated to sharing practices for the conservation of the snow leopard across this vast region.
Participants included representatives from all these regions, as well as a group of young people from Mongolia who are actively engaged in ecological and cultural initiatives aimed at protecting this sacred animal.
During the workshop, the participants explored a wide range of topics related to current challenges, threats, and opportunities in the conservation of the snow leopard and other sacred species. A highlight of the event was an inspiring intergenerational dialogue between youth participants and the LOSL Elders, who shared their wisdom, stories, and blessings for the younger generation to continue this important mission.
Following this exchange, the young participants took part in a series of interactive creative sessions exploring the image of sacred animals through art. The outcomes included essays, drawings, performances, and animated works that expressed both cultural meaning and spiritual connection.
The workshop concluded with a shared vision to continue this initiative within the framework of the transboundary experimental laboratory “Origins”, dedicated to preserving and revitalizing cultural practices and traditional worldviews. As part of this ongoing collaboration, the participants are developing a Digital Sacred Atlas — a creative platform that will unite the artistic works and media projects of Indigenous youth from around the world.
